Fire alarms frazzle editor

Do you ever feel like some students mark special occasions by pulling the fire alarm? Move-in day this semester? Fire alarm. Move-out day last semester? Fire alarm. Heck, moving in last semester had a few fire alarms go off. Three, if I recall correctly.

Why is that a thing? Who burns popcorn or Easy Mac at 2 a.m.? If you can’t be trusted with a simple microwave, just go buy smartfood or the pre-popped alternative. It’s really not worth evacuating two buildings over.

Oh, and pro-tip: there’s an LED readout in the walkway out of Sheehy/Concordia that says where the fire started. Everyone knows where the fire started. Trust me, the urge to start an angry mob over being woken up time and again is really tempting.

Now I’m not saying that mistakes can’t be made, but on those days? It seems hardly coincidental that someone messed up that badly.

But God help them if they did it on purpose or by breaking some kind of rule. It drives me nuts that someone would pull something maliciously to get me and a few hundred people out of bed. Thanks.

The worst part isn’t even the waiting, it’s that every time it happens I’ve probably just managed to fall asleep. I have access to get into McGauvran to keep warm. It just bothers me that someone really didn’t think enough to take some precautions and now I have to get up.

Just please stop letting it happen. You’re in college.
