Q: What are you studying at UMass Lowell? Why did you choose to get involved with the Mother’s of Rock Concert?
A: I’m a sophomore music business major. As president of MEISA, I am the producer of the event. We hold the event annually to continue the tradition of supporting women in music for 10 straight years.
Q: What UMass Lowell organizations will be sponsoring and taking part in the event?
A: We have hosted the event every year for the last 10 years and have various sponsors from the surrounding community such as Brew’d Awakening Coffeehaus, Univeristy Music and Stop & Shop. We are always looking for sponsors, both monetary and otherwise to help us increase the donation made to Girls Inc.
Q: What is the date and location of the show?
A: Saturday March 8th in the Durgin Concert Hall at 7:00pm.
Q: Is there anything special planned since this is the 10th Mothers of Rock show?
A: Brand new for this year, the show will be headlined by New England Music Awards nominee Sarah Borrello. She is a singer/songwriter who’s out there currently doing what the musicians that are being covered in the concert are doing…making it as a woman in music! We also have a limited number of 10th anniversary t-shirts and stickers. Also for the 10th year, we decided to really step it up in terms of production, and will be bringing a professional lighting rig to Durgin Hall. Expect it to really feel like a rock show!
Q: Who are some of your favorite female rockers?
A: Personally, I am a fan of Imogen Heap, Muhsinah and India Arie. Women deserve to be recognized and celebrated for their unique and diverse contributions to music.
Q: Who are some of the acts that will be performing at the show? What will they be playing?
A: We have many people from the UML community covering tons of different artists and styles such as Rihanna, Donna Summers, Lady GaGa, Joant Jett, Lorde, etc.
Q: What groups is the Concert aiming to benefit?
A: Proceeds are split between Girls Inc. of Lowell who will be present and have a table in the lobby and MEISA.
Q: Why do you think a student (or anyone) should attend the show? What’s your call to action?
A: Music students receive recital credit. Also it’s a great way to support your fellow peers for a good cause. The intense rock lighting is definitely a do-not-miss for UMass Lowell. There is also tons of merch available, a bake sale, a 50/50 raffle and other raffle prizes such as a Stop & Shop gift card, St. Patrick’s Day gift basket and a surprise musical instrument among other prizes!
We also will be selling purple bracelets around campus that say “MEISA. Support Women in Music” for a donation.
