Letter from the Editor

To UMass Lowell,

Believe it or not, we’ve almost made it through another hectic year at UMass Lowell. We all begin the year wondering how we will traverse the uncertain territory between September and May. However, we scratch our heads, packing our bags at semester’s end, asking where the time has gone. The same can be said for us here at the Connector. 26 issues up and 26 down, with only one DisConnector left.

This has been a tremendous year for both UMass Lowell and for the Connector. Our university hosted Meryl Streep, saw our hockey team claim another conference title, jammed out at concerts and, overall, continued the transition toward a nationally recognized college. For all these great events and accomplishments, the Connector has been there along the way, writing, photographing and bringing this campus to life. Whether you’ve been a dedicated follower, casual reader or are picking up the Connector for the first time today, I want to say thank you.

Without you, the students, our newspaper would have no audience and no purpose. We enjoy our craft and take pride in our work, but, in reality, this newspaper is for you. In my opinion, this has been one of the most successful years with the Connector to date. We’ve made strides in all areas and the results are clear — just take a look at this week’s issue.

When I began with the Connector four years ago as a naïve and confused freshman, I never expected to be writing this farewell address as a graduating senior. Needless to say, it has been quite a ride. I’m leaving a little less naïve and a little more confused, but highly appreciative for my time with the Connector. Thanks to this opportunity, I’ve become tuned into the pulse of UMass Lowell and had my eyes opened wide to the diverse and driven student body on campus. Everyone has their own unique story and I can barely express the gratitude for being able to tell so many stories these past years.

To all students, good luck with finals and the rest of the semester. I hope you finish strong and still find the time to enjoy yourselves. To all graduating seniors, good luck with life after college. There is a wide world of opportunity out there and, from my experience with the Connector, I know the possibilities are truly endless from UMass Lowell graduates.

Thank you,
Daniel Cook
