With the spring semester of 2016 underway, UMass Lowell has now unveiled their latest completed construction project, the McGauvran Student Center. Costing $34 million to renovate and featuring 52,000 square feet of real estate, the McGauvran Center is the new home to South campus dining as well as a bevy of other new features.

The three tiered structure is built on a foundation of dining. Mirroring its East Campus sister, Fox Hall, McGauvran is home to buffet style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The 400 seat dining hall contains the classic deli sandwiches from Broadway Deli and oven baked pizza from Aroma along with the other quintessential food stations. One of South dining’s newest features is the fleshed out gluten free station; Choices, allowing students with allergies or with dietary restrictions choices in what they eat.

When moving up to the second floor from either the stairs or the connector via the O’Leary Library, students are greeted with a display of study rooms, conversing space and a few more options for food. On either end of the floor, students can either enjoy one of many sandwiches from Subway or try out a burrito from Freshii, a Chipotle-like chain creating fresh food in front of students. To cap off the floor are the grab and go styled markets that carry everyday essentials and luxuries as well as some fresh baked pastries; all features sorely missing from the old South dining hall.

Moving on up to the third floor students have even more room to study and relax away from the hustle and bustle of the floors below them. Encompassing the balcony walkways are classrooms for new classes, creating a true one.
