The Lowell Spinners (5-0) protected an early lead en route to a 6-4 victory over the Willamsport Crosscutters (1-4) to conclude their three-game series Tuesday night at LeLacheur Park.

Lowell was quick to earn the first run of the nights, with a triple from third baseman Victor Acosta sending Jagger Rusconi and Ryan Scott home in the bottom of the first inning. A line drive to center from Yoan Aybar allowed Acosta to sprint home. The Spinners ended the inning up by three.

The second inning followed the pattern of the first. Three quick outs for Williamsport gave the Spinners another shot at bat. Matt McLean and Tyler Hill were both moved along by their teammates and able to add another two runs to Lowell’s score early on. The home team led 5-0 going into the third inning.

Darwinzon Hernandez started on the mound for the Spinners, and helped to keep the Crosscutters scoreless with four strikeouts in five innings.

A pitching change for the Crosscutters diminished Lowell’s momentum, and a double play by Williamsport ended the Spinners’ scoring streak. The third and fourth innings were scoreless for both teams.

Williamsport began to chip away at Lowell’s lead in the fifth inning, earning a run after Lowell’s first error of the contest lead to a double. The Crosscutters added another run in the sixth inning after a pitching change for the Spinners, with Pat Goetze replacing Hernandez.

The score came to within just one run in the seventh inning, as Goetze allowed a Crosscutter home run early in the inning. Shortstop Carlos Tovar fumbled the ball at first, letting Williamsport make it to second and then home on the next hit bringing the score to 5-4.

The third and final pitching change for the Spinners came in the eighth inning, with Gerson Bautista taking the mound. Bautista pitches averaged in the high nineties, and he earned 12 strikes and two strikeouts in his two innings.

Lowell scored one final run in the eighth inning, cementing their victory with a wild pitch with McLean at the plate, allowing Tucker Tubbs to add another tally in the 6-4 Spinners win.

The Spinners travel to New York to face the Hudson Valley Renegades on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
