The Meet the Firms event on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at UMass Lowell, was a great way to go to see different public accounting firms and find a lot of amazing opportunities that they have to offer. The duration that I was there was not much, but nevertheless the event was still amazing.  

At the beginning of the event, I met two firms that help with the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exam. I got to hear from the two firms and how they help people review for the exam. This was really important to me because I want to take the CPA exam in the future and seeing those firms there, was an amazing thing. It was a great way to get to know what the company does and what tips they recommend for people wanting to take the CPA exam.  

I also loved how the companies were willing to keep their tables open past the proposed ending time of the event. I got there a little before 5pm and with the short amount of time I had, it didn’t feel like 30 minutes. I got to speak to pretty much all of the tables and got to see what they were looking for. I didn’t feel like I needed to rush because the event was ending or anything, which was great.  

I am really glad I went to the event because it was really fun and interesting. When I got there and saw that there were people that provided studying aids for the CPA exams, I was really excited to go see the tables. They had a lot of firms there, which I really liked. I also loved how all the individuals there were able to talk to us accounting majors. Even though I wasn’t looking for an internship, I went because I wanted to find companies that I can potentially go to when I am looking for a job opportunity. If I do end up looking for an internship, I know a lot of companies that I can potentially go to, which is amazing to think about.  

I spoke with a few people who also went to the event and liked it as well. The event was in the Meehan Student Center on the second floor. They had free headshots there as well, but I did not take one. My corporate financial reporting professor recommended my class go, and it was a great opportunity to attend.  

Even if you weren’t looking for a job, it was an amazing opportunity to see how many accounting firms there were around here. Hearing what they were looking for and what the company does was sufficient as well. A lot of the companies there, were looking for people to fill internship and Co-op roles, but if you were looking for future job opportunities, it was a great way to find firms that might be a great place to work. Honestly, going to the event made me want to start looking for summer internships. It was a great way to get experience and now I know there are companies that I can possibly work at in the future.  

There will be another event on Sep. 28, 2026, which will be a business career fair. I am really excited to see other accounting firms there that I didn’t see at the Meet the Firms event. That will be another great opportunity to find companies to possibly work at and connect with other like-minded people. It will be at the Meehan Student Center,.  

The Meet the Firms event was an amazing opportunity to find new companies, get to see the companies that help with the CPA exams, and get to know people who do what you want to do. After going to this event, I realized that even if you aren’t looking for an internship, it is a great way to find companies that you like and that you want to work with.
