Ready, set, audition!

The music and entertainment industry students association, MEISA, is holding auditions for their annual Mothers of Rock concert. This upcoming spring 2014 concert is especially exciting considering it will be the 10 year anniversary of the event. Auditions will be held this upcoming Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16, in Durgin Hall.

There, participants will perform for a three judge panel made up of MEISA members. After all the auditions are through, MEISA will confirm the acts that will be performing in the spring concert. Every act that gets picked for the show will be required to go to two of the four practice trials just to see the progress of the acts.

Auditions are open to groups, bands and solo acts. A sign-up sheet with dates and times is located on a pillar also in Durgin Hall. Auditions are also open to all students, faculty and the public. All one has to do is pick a song made relevant by your favorite female star and perform it to the best of your ability. So here are some tips to having an awesome audition.

DO come with some sort of backing music. Auditioning a cappella may be convenient for you, but in preparation for the show it may put you at a disadvantage. The overall show will be a complete performance including backing music. Having a backing track will make you more prepared for future accompaniment.

DO come into the audition with a vision. MEISA members want to help you succeed. So do come in with an idea of what you want your overall performance to look and sound like. That way they can help you have the type of performance you want to have.

DON’T hold back from auditioning because you don’t want to do it alone. The idea of being onstage all by yourself may seem intimidating for some. Luckily you won’t have to.  MEISA will work with you to bring in musicians to accompany you if you do end up auditioning as a solo act.

The concert is completely free to the public; however, donations will be shared between MEISA and Girls Inc. of Greater Lowell. Girls Inc. helps provide leadership skills for girls ages 5-18. The previous spring concert was successful in raising around $800 dollars for the cause.
