This week the Boston Bruins had an especially tough week with Tukka Rask retiring and Brad “Ratboi” Marchand getting in trouble again. A rough week indeed, especially with their trip to the city with the worst traffic in the US, New York City, starting with their Tuesday matchup against the New York Rangers.

First period, Charlie Coyle does the honorable thing for the Bruins, and that was to put one past Igor Shesterkin to give the Bruins the 1-0 lead. The rest of the period was quiet and filled with no goals.

Same thing with the second period, as both netminders just stood like brick walls in net.

Late in the Third period, the Rangers would finally have their chance at life, with center Filip Chytil tying the game. This game would not be decided in a simple 60 minutes. This game went to overtime.

Nothing of note happened during overtime. No team scored and there were no outstanding plays. With no change in score, the game went to shootout.

Opening the shootout Jake DeBrusk  put one by a returning Shesterkin. Mika Zibanejad would respond in kind, tying the shootout by sneaking one past Swayman. Panarin made it 2-1 in the shootout not long later. Coyle tied the shootout 2-2, putting one in the back of the net. But the Rangers would have the last laugh. K’Andre Miller putt the cherry on top, giving the Rangers a 2-1 victory over Boston.

It was a tough loss for the Bruins, but any point is a good point. They need to look for another 2 points in their Long Island road-trip against the New York Islanders.

First period, Taylor Hall lit up the Long Island sound and put a beauty past Ilya Sorokin to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. The Bruins tried their hardest to increase the advantage, but the Islanders defense was strong and so the first period ended with a 1-0 Bruins lead.

Second period, and this time it’s the Islanders who would find the back of the net, with Jean-Gabriel Pageau putting one home to tie the game on the powerplay, making the score 1-1. After that, no team could find real traction throughout the remainder of the period, heading into the third tied up at 1 goal apiece.

Third period, and again, the Islanders put the game away. First, Noah Dobson rips one home to give the Islanders the 2-1 lead. Later in the frame, Mathew Barzal makes a beautiful effort and scores for the 3-1 Islanders lead. Finally, to put the icing on the cake, Brock Nelson puts one in the empty net, with an assist from former Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, to give the New York Islanders the 4-1 win over the Boston Bruins. Another tough loss for the Bruins, who, with Toronto’s win over Pittsburgh, fall further behind and lose their spot as the top three team.

The Bruins currently sit fourth in the Atlantic Division with a record of 27-17-4 and 58 points, trailing the Toronto Maple Leafs by nine points and in desperate need to find someone who can help them win and climb the standings.
