On the heels of the most successful open voting period in New England Music Awards history NEMA organizers are pleased to announce the official recipients of the prestigious Honor Awards which are presented annually to individuals or institutions who have distinguished themselves as pivotal figures on the New England music landscape.

The Grassroots Award is presented annually to an individual or institution who through music and performance has demonstrated a dedication to humanitarian causes. The 2014 Grassroots Award will be presented to the Acoustic For Autism project, accepting the award will be founder Louis Gendron. http://acousticforautism.org/about/

The Scene Award is presented annually to an individual or organization for their outstanding dedication, involvement and contribution to the New England music scene. The 2014 Scene Award will be presented to the organization Lowell Celebrates Kerouac! Founders and board members of the non-profit arts & culture organization will be in attendance to accept the award. http://lowellcelebrateskerouac.org/about

The Decade Award is presented annually to an individual who over the last ten years has distinguished him or herself as a celebrated staple of the New England music industry. The 2014 Decade Award is being presented to Ernie Boch Jr. of the band Ernie & The Automatics and founder of the non-profit Music Drives Us. NEMA organizers are also pleased to announce that these three presentations will be part of the program of the NEMA VIP Kickoff Party on Friday February 21, 2014 at the UMASS Lowell Inn & Conference Center which will also include performances by the NEMA/ Pavoh.org RADAR Class of 2014, nominees Chris Ross, Francesca Blanchard, Amy Allen, Sarah Barrios and a special performance by Jazz Act of the Year nominees President Soup.
