Meet your SGA Candidates

Aaron Kearney and Allen Iem for president and vice president

Student experience is crucial to a university. No matter what the rankings say, if a student is not enjoying their time at college, something is wrong. Allen and I want to make student life here at UMass Lowell the best it can be, and that is why we ask for your vote. We want to tackle key issues facing UMass Lowell students. This includes parking, transportation, food services and Wi-Fi problems. We have advocated for changes in these areas already and we will proceed to do so if we are elected. We have seen students show up late to class due to the shuttle system; we have seen massive increases in parking rates and we have seen our wireless internet crash and burn. The students not only need a voice, but they need student leaders to put in the time and effort to get the job done.

As a junior, I have held leadership positions in many clubs and organization in my college career. I have been the vice-president of the Pre-law Society, treasurer of the Political Science club and I am currently the Academic Affairs chair of the Student Government Association and the membership chair of the Criminal Justice Society. I have worked on many projects, but one example in particular is a “Build Your Own Major” option for undergraduate students. I have worked personally with the vice provost on this project and will continue my efforts.

Allen’s history speaks for itself. He has served our country as a U.S. Marine in Operation Enduring Freedom and many other operations involving the International Security Assistance Force. He can handle anything that comes his way, regardless of the difficulty, and that is why he is a perfect running mate. His dedication for this country echoes in his work on campus and I am grateful to be able to run with him by my side.

Allen and I have a lot more up our sleeves for this university. We will be promoting more collaboration between clubs on campus in order to create more enjoyable events for students. We want to get Student Government more involved in community service and philanthropy initiatives. We do not want Student Government to be self-serving; we want to give back to students, the community and charity. Allen and I want to have a friendly relationship with the students because we are representing you. What the students want is what the students are going to get.

Significant changes have been made without the insight of students and that is simply not acceptable. Students need proper representation and Allen and I guarantee this will happen if we are elected.

UMass Lowell is more than a university. It is a home, a community, a family and the setting to many experiences in a student’s life. Without the students, UMass Lowell is just a bunch of buildings with no purpose. The students make the university and they should have their needs met. Allen and I will be that voice. We will provide the strength the students need because our goals are your goals. On April 15 and 16 we will need your vote. Vote “Aaron Kearney and Allen Iem” as your new president and vice president of the Student Government Association; we are in this together.
