River Hawk baseball’s rally falls short against Bryant

The UMass Lowell men’s baseball team dropped a tough game to Bryant University after their late game rally fell just short.

The River Hawks were down 5-0 after four innings but earned multiple runs of their own to make it close, ultimately losing 5-4.

“Good effort today against a very good Bryant team,” head coach Ken Harring said to goriverhawks.com. “I thought we competed very well and I saw progress with our team today.”

Lowell’s comeback efforts began in the sixth inning when junior Matthew Sanchez hit a single with men on second and third to bring both River Hawk baserunners home. He then stole a base and was brought home on a single by junior Jimmy Ricoy.

The River Hawks would get another run in the eighth thanks to Sanchez’s second hit of the day. They would then load the bases for junior Luke Reynolds with just one out, but Reynolds’ ground ball back to the pitcher was fielded perfectly and Bryant was able to convert a timely double play.

With the loss, the River Hawks dropped to 8-7 on the season but remain undefeated so far in America East play with a 2-0 conference record.
