The Wu Tang Clan strikes once again …but only once

The illustrious Wu Tang Clan have made a career out of setting records. This year, Wu fans will be happy to know that the Clan is looking to leave their mark on the history books again. Only, the particular record they look to break this time is least amount of records sold.

That’s right, The RZA, de facto leader of the Wu Tang has just announced that their next album, “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin,” will only have one copy available. It is also important to note that since the announcement predates April 1st. This is apparently not a joke.

The basic idea was inspired by the sale of famous art pieces. The RZA had awed at the exorbitant prices that the works of Andy Warhol and artists of the like could go for, and he wanted to produce the music equivalent of that.

“We are about to put out a piece of art like nobody else has done in the history of music. We’re making a single-sale collector’s item,” said RZA. He also compared ownership of the item to owning the scepter of an Egyptian king.

As for the price, Wu Tang has been taking various bids for the collector’s item, and it has been quite the market. Prices have been suggested in the 2-3 million dollar range for this album, which is supposed to also be accompanied with galleries and tour festivals. So far, the highest offer has been 5 million dollars. Apparently, Wu Tang may see the inside of the record books again with most expensive album.

Naturally, with an item being so heavily valued, it is heavily secured. The album is concealed in a silver safe box in a Morrocan vault currently. Don’t worry though, Wu Tang is bringing the artifact on tour to exhibit the album, so there will be plenty or pictures snapped. Even on tour though, security will follow the album to protect it from potential bootlegging.

This will count as the first official Wu Tang release since 2007’s “Eight Diagrams.”
