Freshman music major, Ben Constantini, is looking forward to a career as a musician and music teacher. As a musician, Constantini says he mostly likes playing jazz music, and he wants to share his passion with those eager to learn.

“I’ve been playing music for a long time and I’d rather do something as a job that I love, than to make more money doing something that I hate,” he said.

Though still a student himself, Constantini is ready to share his knowledge and his passion for music.

“French horn is not actually French. It’s actually German, but it’s in the key of F. So, some English-speaking people saw horn in F, or they saw F horn and they assumed the F stood for French.”

Constantini is not only skilled in music, but he also has the ability to solve Rubik’s cubes quickly. This led him to participate in speed-cubing competitions with the World Cube Association (WCA), saying that, at one point, he went to 10 competitions in one year. “I still practice sometimes,” said Constantini, though he hasn’t competed in years.

Before competing in WCA competitions, Constantini took home a prize for his favorite Halloween costume.

“When I was in second grade, I dressed up as Indiana Jones, because I was an Indiana Jones fan at the time,” he said. “I won a costume competition, and the person said that the reason why is because I put a lot of detail into it.” Even now, Constantini says Halloween is his favorite holiday because of the creativity and the social experience.

If he could transform himself into any object or animal, Constantini said, “I would be an apple to feed people, spread my seeds to feed more people.” His desire to become an apple reflects  Constantini’s goal of becoming a teacher.

“Don’t be afraid to learn anything, because knowledge sets you free.”
