The Boston Bruins did not have the most ideal week in the world. While it was a short week for the Black and Gold, playing just three games, they started the week at home against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Ducks and Bruins put on a good display of hockey for the roaring crowd at TD Garden, but it was the Ducks who scored first with a goal from Derek Grant halfway through the first period, making the score 1-0 Anaheim.

The second period started on another sour note for the Bruins with Anaheim’s Isac Lundestrom making it 2-0 Ducks early on. Later in the period, Bruins forward David Pastrnak notched his 20th of the season to make it 2-1. But an Anaheim response added a little later on from Ryan Getzlaf would make this game 3-1.

With under five minutes to go in the frame, Bruins left winger Taylor Hall puts one home for his ninth  on the year, bringing the score to 3-2 Ducks.

In the third period, Troy Terry continues his hot streak and makes it 4-2 Anaheim, and Greg Pateryn follows suit a few minutes later giving the Ducks a three point lead. With under five minutes left in the game, Erik Haula put one past John Gibson for his 4th on the year to make it 5-3, but at that point, it was far too late. Anaheim took the game 5-3, Gibson earning the win for the Ducks. The Bruins would travel to Denver for Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avalanche were riding a 16-home game winning streak heading into this game. The game’s start time was delayed thanks to TNT still covering the Chicago and Detroit game and having to outsource the start of the Boston V. Colorado  game to TruTV.

In the first period, Kurtis MacDermid puts one home to give Colorado the 1-0 lead. Also in that period, Taylor Hall delivered a check on Nathan MacKinnon that bloodied him. Hall was initially given a five minute major but was downgraded to a two-minute minor upon review.

To the second period now, Bruins forward DeBrusk snuck one by for his seventh on the season to tie the game. five minutes later, McAvoy rips one home for his tenth of the year to give the Bruins the 2-1 lead. Just over a minute later, “the rat” Brad Marchand extended the lead to 3-1 on his 21st goal of the season.

Coming into the third period the Bruins were looking to seal the deal. However, the Avalanche had other plans. Halfway through the period, Sam Girard slid one in to make it a 3-2 game. Just when the game seemed finished,  with only 37 seconds left on the clock, Gabriel Landeskog tied it up at threes.

The game headed to overtime, where Cale Makar sent the Avs to bed with the win, 4-3 was the final score. Another tough loss for the Bruins on the road, as they gather themselves up and prepare for a Friday Night showdown in Arizona.

The Bruins currently sit fourth in the Atlantic Division with a record of 24-13-3 with 51 points, three points behind Toronto for third. The Bruins need to shape themselves back into order if they want a chance at getting back to the postseason in a season filled with great uncertainty due to COVID-19. Only time will tell what happens from here.
