After the hit show “Dance Moms”, some of the stars, Jojo Siwa in particular, decided to continue working in the industry, while others, like Nia Sioux and Kendall Vertes decided to move on from that part of their lives as a whole. While some are still seen occasionally on TikTok and Instagram, many have since put their “Dance Moms” years behind them in order to start a new journey. One in particular is Tate McRae.
McRae first came into public view for her amazing dancing, making her the first Canadian finalist on the show, “So You Think You Can Dance” (2005), which later earned her a spot on the hit TV show “Dance Moms”. After such accomplishment, she went on to start a YouTube channel. McRae posted herself singing songs written by her, dancing, and other videos about her life. As she continued to post her videos, more and more people came across her personal and very relatable song lyrics, making her gain over 5 million subscribers.
As she started to gain more subscribers and followers, she started making TikTok’s that promoted her songs. This ultimately skyrocketed her popularity and music. In 2020, her single “You Broke Me First”, gained public headlines becoming an international hit, hitting number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. This made McRae the youngest musician to be featured on the Forbes’ 30 under 30 List in 2021. After her career began to flourish, she has released two studio albums, one mixtape, two extended plays, and 35 singles with three as a featured artist.
Her new album, “Think Later”, was just released Dec. 8, 2023 and has already gained some major popularity. The album consists of 14 songs, with the single “greedy” being the most listened to song with over 1.1 million views. In the first week of the album being released, it landed at No. 4 in the top 10 charting albums on the Billboard 200 with over 66,000 equivalent album units sold. Even though she has been around for longer than people know and seemingly has been signed on to a record label since around 2019, Tate is only 20 years old and is slowly grouping up in front of us as she takes the world by storm, one song at a time.
