An exciting spring semester awaits UMass Lowell athletics

Trevor Cullen
Connector Editor

Hello all, and welcome back for the spring semester! I hope everyone had a relaxing and entertaining winter break. While we have been away, a lot has happened in the world of UMass Lowell athletics.

The men’s hockey team made its first ever appearance at Frozen Fenway; The men’s and women’s basketball teams each collected their first wins against America East opponents; and the men and women from track and field continued to break records and compete at the highest level.

As the semester gets underway, there is no shortage of opportunity for anyone with an interest in sports, writing, or any aspect of UMass Lowell athletics to get involved. Writing is not limited to varsity sports, either. There are great club teams, intramural leagues and events, and even rec center programs that have the potential to become a story worth publishing.

I am always looking for help in covering and creating the sports page for the Connector, and last semester I received some great help from a number of different students. This semester, I hope more fellow students will start to write. Not only do you get to see your work printed and published, but it is a great resume builder too.

If this is your last semester (as it is mine), it is not too late to write some articles! If you are a freshman,
now is a great time to get started! There really is no story too big or too small; it is all about what interests you.

This semester promises to be a rewarding one in the sporting world here at UMass Lowell. The River Hawks hockey team will look to make its third consecutive appearance in the Hockey East and NCAA playoffs. The baseball and softball teams will start their first season of competition at the Division I level. The possibilities and opportunities for interesting and compelling stories are out there, waiting to be discovered. Who knows what could happen at the next game!

So I urge you, fellow students, to pursue any interest in sports, writing, journalism, or even just a feeling of curiosity, and to write for the Connector. We meet every Monday on South Campus at 6 p.m. in MacGauvarn 347. I know this time is inconvenient for many students, so if you cannot make it, please feel free to email me at Trevor_Cullen@student.uml.edu.

Good luck this semester, and go River Hawks!
