With the holiday season around the corner, many people make the decision to donate to charities to ensure everyone has an enjoyable holiday experience.

WUML, the radio station here at UMass Lowell, is hosting their annual Rock for Tots event on Dec. 1. The event seeks to raise money for local charities just in time for the holidays. This will be the thirteenth year the event has been held.

Rock for Tots will take place in Moloney Hall at UCrossing at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door or $8 presale.

WUML has four incredible local bands lined up to play, including Daisy Bones, who also played at WUML’s Rocktoberfest event last month under the name Jagweed. They are a unique band with funky sounds that are sure to keep the energy high. The group has a great stage presence and they really work to incorporate the audience to make sure everyone has a fun night. The group will most likely play songs from their old band, Crown the Youth, as Daisy Bones has not released music under that name yet.

Oldsoul is another local band set to play. They have more of a calm, indie rock sound, yet still have an edge to them that will definitely get the crowd moving. Oldsoul has one EP released, as well as a split EP with New York Native band, Speirs. With two vocalists, Jess Hall and Tom Stevens, the group provides a distinguishable sound that has something for everyone to enjoy. Stevens also plays the saxophone, which is a unique instrument to play in this kind of band, but it will surely add a discernable element to their songs.

Soft Cactus is an alternative band, with more jazz and soulful influences. Similar to Oldsoul, the group incorporates various elements and instruments to create distinct sounds. Even with more mellow tones, the group still has a power and energy to them, like the other bands that will be performing. Lead singer Melissa Mills has a soulful voice that will captivate the audience.

Bay Fiction was the final band announced for Rock for Tots. This trio also plays indie-type music, with more of a rock and punk element. With an EP and full-length album under their belt, this group has some experience they can bring to the stage. Their songs are filled with honest and risky lyrics that show this band is not afraid to put themselves out there.

These bands create an incredible line up for the Rock for Tots event. With varying sounds, each band brings something different and there is definitely something enjoyable for any music fan. Students are encouraged to attend and since the show will benefit many local charities.

With the end of the semester drawing closer, students could use a break. Join WUML in helping a great cause while enjoying some local musicians showcase their talents on Dec. 1. The event is open to the public.
