A look into Homecoming events for UMass Lowell in 2022

Another school year another week of sports, games and music for all ages approaches. Homecoming 2022 is on its way starting on Friday, September 30 spanning to Saturday, October 8. This week-long event is a celebration of all things UMass Lowell and a gift back to the River Hawk students, both new and old, for all their hard work and success.

To kick it off: from 6 PM to 8 PM alumni, students and staff are invited to the UML Inn & Conference Center for the EMS Banquet and Alumni Celebration. This event is held in celebration for the progress of the EMS Program and to recognize the accomplishments of those hard working individuals in years past and present; admittance is $35.00 per person. This event is not the only one taking place. At 7 PM to 9 PM on the Campus Recreation Center Turf and Patio area an outdoor movie night is open to all featuring the movie “Encanto”. From 5 PM to 9 PM at University Suites 106 the Family Lounge & Information Center is hosting a night of board games, arts & crafts, drinks, snacks and much more. Families of students are invited to join and bring any questions they have for the Family Programs Staff that will be present. This event will recur on Saturday Oct. 1 from 9 AM to 5 PM with more children oriented activities: kids craft session from 10-10:30 AM, superhero trivia from 11-11:30 AM, tv theme song trivia from 1-1:30 PM and a games in the style of Family Feud from 2-2:30 PM.

From September 30 to October 2 join in an exciting on-campus Photo Scavenger Hunt and take pictures at specific locations found here: Scavenger Hunt List, or by going to the Events & Programs section of the Family Programs page on the UML website. Over the same two days help UML give back to students in the Family Association Food & Resource Drive. Food donation bins can be found around East Campus and online donations can be made here: Donations, or at the Amazon Pantry Wish List.

What better way to close out the first day of homecoming week than with a night of dancing, food and games. Starting at 9 PM and ending at 12 AM with free entry students are highly encouraged to wear formal attire for a night of comradery and fun with their fellow River Hawks at University Crossing.

On October 1 at the Saab Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center a fun filled brunch will knock your boots off with New England’s premiere drag entertainers starting at 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM. The cost of entry is $20.00 per person, but don’t forget to bring some tips for the performers as well. The Asian American Center is hosting an open house for all to enjoy; head there for some fun activities and to become well informed from 1 PM to 3 PM. From 3 PM to 6 PM a special celebration will take place on the Tsongas Center Lawn consisting of pre-game festival events. Simultaneously the River Hawk Way Pre-Game Festival is taking place for a family oriented event of food, drinks, live music, entertainment, games and much more.

At the Bellegarde Boathouse- families, students and staff are welcomed to enjoy an hour of free kayaking between 10 AM and 3 PM. A Family Pre-Game Tailgate in the Club Rooms of the Tsongas center, from 5 PM to 7PM, invites all students and their families to enjoy a little downtime before the hockey game. Hors d’oeuvres will be served with a cash bar; the cost is $20.00 per person with the game tickets included.

On Sunday, October 2 the Honors College is hosting a Family BBQ at the University Suites Courtyard starting at noon and ending at 2 PM. Staff, students and their families are welcomed to enjoy an afternoon of lawn games, family oriented activities and a barbeque lunch. District Executive Chef Jeffery Stone and District Pastry Chef Joe Frackleton are giving UML a special treat on Tuesday, October 4 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. At the UMass Lowell Inn with a $40.00 per in-person ticket and free attendance for the virtual option join our chefs in a “chef-inspired and easy-to-make-on-your-own fall meal.”

River Hawk Homecoming 2022 is expecting to be a jam packed week for students, families and staff to enjoy. With the different events taking place over the following week there are plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.
